In the continued build toward the explosion of the MegaPowers, it was Randy Savage who would battle Akeem on WWF Superstars in January 1989.

The match started off pretty slowly for Randy Savage as he had trouble dealing with the size of Akeem. Savage was quickly drawn in by Akeem and had a difficult time gaining an advantage on the big man. Eventually, however, Savage was able to get Akeem down on the mat and deliver his signature Flying Elbow. Before the referee could count to three, Savage was bludgeoned over the head with the Big Bossman's nightstick. Immediately, this brought Hulk Hogan out to make the save. Hogan made quick work of the Twin Towers by bodyslamming them both in the center of the ring. As Elizabeth tended to the battered Macho Man, Hogan took it upon himself to start posing in the ring.

With a look of disbelief, Savage grabbed the nightstick from Elizabeth's hands and stood behind Hulk Hogan. As Hogan posed for the crowd, Savage pondered whether or not he should hit Hogan with the stick. Before he could make his decision, the Hulkster turned to Savage, took the nightstick from him and handed it back to Elizabeth. Hogan the was able to get Savage to pose for the crowd as well. Although Savage was posing for the crowd, he still had the look of disbelief on his face and quickly exited the ring with Elizabeth.
