In October of 1996, Elizabeth's career in pro-wrestling was caught in a crossfire. At the time, Elizabeth was a member of The Four Horsemen. After betraying Randy Savage, she began to feel remorse for her actions and was seen at several WCW events watching his matches. While all of this was going on, Liz made the decision to join the nWo!

With her emotions being torn between leaving The Horsemen and wanting to make ammends with Savage, Elizabeth tried desperately to get out of her deal with the nWo, but Hollywood Hogan would hear none of it. As The Four Horsemen prepared to go to the ring, they were attacked by the nWo. After the attack, The Giant backed Elizabeth out of the backstage area and out to the arena near the announcer's table. Seeing what was going on, Randy Savage came to the aid of Elizabeth and tried to hold off The Giant with a chair. This, however, left Randy open for a sneak attack by Hogan.

With Savage beaten down, The Giant held Elizabeth by the head and forced her to watch as Hollywood Hogan destroyed The Macho Man. After finishing him off with a leg drop, Hogan turned his ire toward Elizabeth and proclaimed that he owned her, that it was etched in stone. Elizabeth from this point forward was a member of the nWo whether she liked it or not.
